PAST pupils and former players of Christian Brothers College have been invited to sponsor a tile on its Unity Wall following the installation’s recent unveiling.

Located in the Lansdowne Sports Complex, it was created in support of the school’s rugby teams. Its unveiling ceremony was held ahead of the Senior A team’s game against Clongowes Wood College.

Past pupils and former players will be able to sponsor a tile with all funds raised going towards the development of rugby at the secondary school.

The initial offering, which has been limited to 150 tiles, has drawn support from locations as far as the US and Australia. Since the school’s foundation in 1888, many past pupils have gone on to play for Munster and Ireland. Others benefited from the school’s sporting culture.

CBC Principal, David Lordon spoke at the launch, “Our Unity Wall is an initiative of our alumni who recognised that there is a large diaspora around the world who wish to support both the current generation of players and those who are set to follow in their footsteps,” he said.

“Some of the country’s finest players have honed their skills here in Lansdowne, and we are immensely proud of the outstanding success they have gone on to achieve for their province and country. We are equally proud, however, of the many CBC boys who have lined out to represent their school in various competitions and leagues over so many years, and who continue to enhance the proud rugby tradition in the College.”

Meanwhile, Donal O’Mahony, who is head of sport at the school said: “The Unity Wall is a symbol of our strength and togetherness, and has been created to celebrate the values of rugby and the spirit of unity that defines Christian Brothers College. It is a testament to the bonds formed through shared experiences on and off the rugby field, and one which alumni will hopefully support from wherever they are in the world.”

Tiles on the Unity Wall are available from €250 with all funds raised going directly to support the further development goals of Christians Rugby.
