BUS ÉIREANN has given details of its Christmas and new year timetables.

With Christmas the company’s busiest time of year, it is encouraging passengers to plan their journeys in advance and check the updated timetables on the Bus Éireann website, www.buseireann.ie.

Bus Éireann services will operate to normal schedules until December 23, marking one of the busiest travel weeks as passengers from across Ireland and beyond travel home for the festive season.

On Christmas Eve, services will operate to a Sunday timetable, with earlier final departures, while city, town, commuter, and rural services will operate to a Sunday service, with last departures at about 9pm.

The last departure time for the route 40 Expressway eastbound from Cork on Christmas Eve will be at 8.40pm, with the last departure time for the route 40 Expressway westbound from Cork on Christmas Eve at 7pm.

There will be no Bus Éireann services operating on Christmas Day.

On St Stephen’s Day, services will operate based on Bank Holiday/ Sunday service timetables, commencing around 9am, and passengers planning to travel are encouraged to check the timetable for their routes.

Cork City will operate a full Sunday service, except for route 220, with services on route 220 commencing after 7am and operating as normal thereafter.

The first Expressway departure times for route 51 northbound from Cork on St Stephen’s morning will be 7.25am.

From December 27, services will operate to normal timetables through to New Year’s Eve.

New Year's Day services 

Services on New Year’s Day will operate to a Sunday schedule, and a full normal timetable on Bus Éireann services will resume from January 2.

Bus Éireann chief executive Stephen Kent said that the Christmas and new year period is the busiest time of year for Bus Éireann services, and the company was delighted to provide an extensive schedule up to and during the Christmas season to meet the travel needs of its customers.

“Bus Éireann has facilitated over 99m passenger journeys in 2023, and we know that many of our customers will be using our services during the Christmas season whether travelling home, visiting family and friends, shopping, or working over the festive period,” said Mr Kent.

“We advise those planning to travel over the festive period to plan their journeys in advance and check our website for up-to-date timetables and travel information.”
