PLANNING permission is being sought for the development of an ambulance base in North Cork.

Estates office of the HSE South has lodged a planning application with Cork County Council seeking permission for the development on a greenfield site to the east of Mount Alvernia Hospital near Mallow town.

A description of the proposed development in a document submitted with the application states that the site would be the “optimum location”.

“Through the HSE, the National Ambulance Service requires a new ambulance base in the Mallow area. It is proposed to locate it within the grounds of Mount Alvernia Hospital, Mallow.

“A 6,434 square metre area of the overall 75,422 square metre hospital site has been identified as the optimum location for the new building,” the report states.

“This land parcel is located within the south-eastern section of the overall campus and will have direct access to the public road. The 472 square metre building will be single storey with pitched roofs. It will accommodate a two-bay ambulance garage, administrative offices, changing facilities and staff rest areas.”

It adds: “Sheltered parking spaces will also be provided for four emergency vehicles. 20 surface car parking spaces will be provided.
