Consultant appointed to begin work on 'vital access route' on Cork's northside 

A consultant has been appointed to begin the design work on a ‘vital access route’ between the Harbour View Road and St Mary’s Medical Campus in Gurranabraher which will cut out two bus journeys for some trying to access medical treatment on Cork city’s north side, a Fianna Fáil councillor has confirmed.

Cllr Tony Fitzgerald said he was delighted that the appointment has been confirmed for what he described as a vital access route which is being completed under the Cork City North West Quarter Regeneration Programme.

Cllr Fitzgerald said he was hopeful that work would get underway on the project within months and that the overall timescale for its completion was 20 weeks from now.

“It is expected the site set up and construction will commence before Christmas,” said the councillor.

He said the project was made even more necessary by the movement of the doctor’s surgery in Knocknaheeny to the new Primary Care Centre which is located on the St. Mary’s Campus.

“Patients found it difficult to access the services and often had to take 2 buses,” said Cllr Fitzgerald “I am delighted now in response to many patients that the access will allow them easy access to attend the many services on the site once known as the Orthopaedic hospital.”
