Some water interruptions expected as work gets underway on Cork city project

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Cork City Council, is set to replace over 1km of aged water mains on Edward Walsh Road, Michael Fitzgerald Road, and part of Charles Daly Road.

The essential works are due to commence this week and will be completed by the end of February 2024.

Uisce Éireann said that once completed, customers in the area will enjoy an improved water supply with less disruption caused by bursts and leakage.

Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Jack Cronin, said: “The section of water main that we are replacing has burst several times recently, so we are delighted to progress these upgrades for the local community, providing them with a more reliable water supply.

“To deliver the works safely and efficiently, traffic management in the form of a stop-go system will be in place during this time and a diversion will be signposted.

Local and emergency access will always be maintained. We would like to thank customers in advance for their cooperation and patience while we complete these essential works.

The project is being carried out by Ward and Burke Construction Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Customers are advised that works may involve some short-term interruptions to water supply and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned disruption.

The works also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main on the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting them to the customer’s water supply.
