IT’S now just one week until the famed Dragon of Shandon hits the streets of Cork in a spectacle that is not to be missed.

The 36ft dragon, made entirely out of tape, will take to the streets escorted by her legion of loyal ghouls, beasts, misfits, and demons to celebrate the ancient tradition of Samhain, in a thrilling night-time parade and finale show attracting thousands of spectators, young and old, to Cork city.

Hundreds of participants will help bring the dragon to life.

Volunteers and community groups such as Suisha Inclusive Arts, Blackpool Community Access Program, and National Learning Network will be collaborating with CCAL artists to create floats, costumes, and performances.

The creative force behind the event, Cork Community Art Link (CCAL), said preparations are now in the final stages and fundraising for the annual event is still ongoing with a GoFundMe page setup and merchandise on sale.

The group said on Facebook: “We have been working with some amazing community groups for the Dragon of Shandon Parade 2023.

“Blackpool Community access programme, Suisha Inclusive Arts (Cope Foundation), and the National Learning Network have been hard at work making some spooky works of art for you all to see on the night of the 31st.

“It’s been a real honour to watch all of the group’s participants learn and grow over the last few weeks.

“Help us bring the Dragon back to the streets of Cork and to continue working with amazing groups such as mentioned by purchasing our merch or donating to our GoFundMe.”

The shop can be found at www.corkcommunityartlink.com/store.html and the GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/0902d57f.

All money raised goes back into the event.
