ALDI Ireland has agreed a new €1.8m contract extension with Folláin, a family-owned company in West Cork that currently supplies Aldi Ireland with a range of relish, chutney and sauces.

Folláin has been collaborating with Aldi for nearly two decades to create unique award-winning products.

This year, its Specially Selected Ploughman’s Chutney won Gold at the Irish Quality Food and Drinks Awards, while its Specially Selected Chipotle Ketchup and Specially Selected Irish Sweet Tomato Relish won Silver and Bronze accolades respectively at the 2023 Blás na hÉireann awards.

The company itself traces its roots back to 1983 when it first introduced its batch of grapefruit marmalade using a 100-year-old recipe that had been passed down through family generations.

Folláin has since expanded its range to include an award-winning variety of relish, chutney, sauces, and currently employs approximately 50 people in their West Cork facility.

It has become a gold member of Origin Green, Ireland’s national food and drink sustainability programme, and this membership allows it to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets, highlighting its commitment to responsible practices in the industry.

Welcoming the contract extension, John Curtin, Group Buying Director, ALDI Ireland said: “We have been working with Folláin for 20 years and their commitment to award-winning quality and innovative products aligns with Aldi’s mission.

“We look forward to providing our customers with exceptional products through this long-term partnership.”

Pat O’Farrell, the Commercial Manager at Folláin, added: “We work closely with our partners in Aldi to develop and create a unique set of recipes for Aldi customers to enjoy.

“The products we create for Aldi are specifically developed with the tastes and preferences of Irish shoppers in mind, ensuring that the finished product is the absolute best it can be.”
