A CORK woman is hosting an event next month to raise funds for an organisation empowering people with intellectual disabilities and autism that supports her daughter.
Eleanor O’Kelly-Lynch, who also penned a book titled The Girl With Special Knees, is inviting people to the Clayton Silver Springs Hotel on Wednesday, November 1 from 7.15pm to 10.30pm. The ‘Colour Your Life’ fundraising event aims to put a spotlight on the need for self-compassion and finding joy and happiness in everyday life.
Eleanor, whose daughter has been supported by COPE Foundation for more than 27 years, explained why she set up the event.
“Wintertime can be tough on all of us and sometimes. I think we can also be tough on ourselves. We need to remember to be kind to ourselves and there are lots of small ways we can do this in everyday life. I want everyone who attends on the night to walk away feeling energised and uplifted. It’s also a good way to brighten up a dark November evening and support the great work of Cope Foundation.”
Style coach Miriam Nash added: “I believe it’s not what you wear but how you wear it. My focus is for you to have fun, to help you create your own unique style and to improvise using colour. I am delighted to be supporting this event for Cope Foundation. I previously worked for many years in the disability sector, so I understand and appreciate the great work this organisation does here in Cork.”
Cope Foundation supports 2,800 people with an intellectual disability and/or autism to live a life of their choosing.
Tickets are €25 and can be bought at: www.idonate.ie/event/colouryourlife
