A NEW Cork support group, What’s Your Scéal, is hosting a social event to create a safe space for those impacted by domestic and sexual abuse.

What’s Your Scéal was started as a response to the tragedy surrounding Bruna Fonseca on New Year’s Eve last year in Cork.

“That really upset me, and I was talking to my friend and we realised we don’t talk about these issues.

“We hear about issues, but we never talk about it,” What’s Your Scéal Founder Téa Surina said.

What’s Your Scéal is hosting a social event in the Pavilion on October 6 in the hopes to remove the taboo around speaking about domestic and sexual abuse.

“We want to remove all the taboos that we have as a community.

“We want to create a safe space, a safe environment to feel really good about yourself and you’re able to share what happened,” she said.

According to Téa, the number of domestic violence cases has increased post Covid-19.

“I’m still hearing stories about a friend of a friend who was in an abusive relationship, but nobody knew because no one is talking about it.

“The aim of the game for this project is to create a platform where all these voices can be heard.

“Our email is info@whatsyoursceal.ie and we would love for people who wants to share some details about what happened to them,” she said.

The What’s Your Scéal event will also feature a range of musicians and comedians such as Lesly Martinez, Darragh Murphy and Malol Black.

NeutraPharma will also introduce their ‘Check Your Drink’ product at the event, including their spiked drink testers.

The event will raise funds for OSS Cork, a domestic violence service in Cork city and county.

Ticket information and the full list of acts are available at whatsyoursceal.ie.

The event will kick off at 8pm on October 6 at the Pavilion.
