ESB Networks crews mobilised and working to restore power to hundreds of properties in Cork

ESB Networks say crews are mobilised and working to restore power to hundreds of properties across the city and county this evening.
Thousands of homes and businesses were left without power in Cork as Storm Agnes swept across the country.
A spokesperson for ESB Networks told the Echo that high winds associated with Storm Agnes had led to a number of power outages across Co Cork today.
Areas impacted include Bandon, Carrigaline, Fermoy, Killacloyne, Macroom, Mallow and some areas surrounding Cork City.
"ESB Networks crews are mobilised and working towards restoring power as quickly and safely as possible to those affected," the spokesperson said.
"So far, the scale of disruption has been relatively modest and in line with past experiences of similar Met Éireann Status Orange wind warnings.
"Real-time information on power outages and restoration times is available on www.PowerCheck.ie.
"We apologise to all customers impacted for the obvious inconvenience caused," the spokesperson added.
ESB Networks is reminding people "if you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1800 372 999."
Thousands of homes and businesses are without power in Cork this afternoon including more than 1,700 customers in the greater Ringaskiddy area and more than 1,200 in the Killacloyne area near Carrigtwohill.
Power outages are also reported in the Rosscarbery, Whitehcurch, Bantry Mallow and the Lee Bridge areas among others.
At one point this morning more than 4,000 properties in the Macroom and Bandon areas were without power, however, electricity has been restored to many of these customers.
Thousands of homes and businesses across Cork are without power this morning as Storm Agnes makes landfall.
Some 2,333 properties are without power in the Macroom area alone, with power not expected to be restored to customers until 2.15pm.
A further 1,713 properties are without power in the Bandon area with power expected to restored this morning.
Nearly 600 properties in the Béal na Bléth area and more than 400 in the greater Kanturk area are also without electricity; it is expected that power will be restored in both areas around 2pm.
Outages are also being reported in Ballincollig, Rosscarbery, Whitehcurch, Bantry Mallow and the Lee Bridge areas.
Orange wind and rain warnings are currently in place in Cork. The rain warning will remain in place until 3pm while the win warning is in place until 5pm. A yellow wind and rain warning will come into effect afterward and remain in place until midnight.
Yesterday Cork City Council warned that a tidal surge leading to quayside flooding in Cork city as well as intense downpours of heavy rain and very strong gusty wind are expected today.
The local authority said that the tidal surge could cause localised flooding in some lying quay areas of the city, including Morrison’s Island, South Terrace, Union Quay, Lavitt’s Quay and Wandesford Quay at high tide. Tidal flooding is expected to be limited to the road carriageways with limited, if any, other flooding.
It said the high tide of note for today in the city is at 4.55pm.
Lane restrictions and closures "Commuters are advised that Wandesford Quay will most likely be closed to traffic from 4.30 pm until 5.30 pm on Wednesday 27th September and lane restrictions will be in place on South Terrace and Lavitt’s Quay at this time also, so please plan your journey accordingly.
"The parking areas on Father Mathew, Morrison’s and Union Quays will also be affected and local traffic movements may be affected," City Council said in a statement.
"Driving conditions will be poor throughout the day with strong winds blowing debris around, heavy rain affecting visibility and there being a risk of flooding and debris on roads. Please slow down and drive with extra care and attention," it added.
Cork County Council said it has crews on standby in several known risk locations across the county.
Members of the public are advised to stay high, stay dry and stay away from the coast, rivers and lakes. With strong gusts and high waves predicted, people are urged to refrain from visiting coastal areas.
The Council is asking members of the public to exercise extreme caution as driving conditions may be hazardous, with surface and flash flooding possible. Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flowing or standing water and to exercise caution during heavy rain. Motorists are also asked to be conscious of vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians.
