Man charged with deception in relation to an alleged investment of €200,000 appears in Cork court

Judge Olann Kelleher adjourned the case until October 19 for preparation and service of the book of evidence.
A 67-year-old Wicklow man appeared before Cork District Court on a charge of deception in relation to an alleged investment of €200,000.
Detective Garda James O’Reilly charged Dermot Mooney of Marmont Cottage, Baranisky East, Avoca, County Wicklow.
The single count stated that on dates between November 8, 2013 and May 19, 2016 in Cork city, Dermot Mooney did dishonestly by deception induce a named man to invest €200,000 with the intention of making a gain for himself or another, contrary to the Criminal Law (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act.
Sergeant Pat Lyons said the Director of Public Prosecutions directed trial by indictment or would accept a signed plea of guilty at Cork District Court before sentencing at the circuit court, should that arise.
Defence barrister, Cliodhna Buckley, said a book of evidence would be required.
Judge Olann Kelleher adjourned the case until October 19 for preparation and service of the book of evidence. Det Garda O’Reilly said there was no objection to the accused being remanded on bail until then and no conditions were required.
