Drugs seized in Cork

ALMOST half a million euro worth of drugs was seized on the north side of Cork city yesterday.

The raid – which was a joint operation between the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Cork Divisional Drugs Unit, and Revenue’s Customers Service – unfolded at an address in Glanmire.

Roughly 33kg of cannabis, with an estimated street value of €450,000, was discovered at the house.

The drugs were seized and Gardai arrested a 50-year-old man who was last night being detained at Mayfield Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.

Revenue officials have appealed for members of the public to contact its confidential Freephone number 1800 295 295 if they have any information about drug smuggling.
