McDonalds planning new drive-thru in Wilton Shopping Centre car park

FAST food chain McDonalds is planning a new drive-thru restaurant in the car park of Wilton Shopping Centre.

The company has lodged plans with Cork City Council seeking the go-ahead to build a two-storey building on the south-east corner of the Shopping Centre facing the Tesco supermarket.

The proposed development will consist of a 571 square metre drive-thru restaurant with vehicular and pedestrian access; footpaths; outdoor seating; with set down spaces and bicycle parking.

The development would involve the partial re-arrangement of the existing Wilton Shopping Centre car park resulting in the net reduction of 28 parking spaces.

If approved, the restaurant would be the 11th McDonalds outlet in Cork.

Recently the company opened new restaurants in Ballincollig and next to the Musgrave Park.

A planning condition restricted the opening hours of the Musgrave Park restaurant to 10pm but the company appealed the decision and won the right to remain open until 11pm.

A planning decision on the Wilton restaurant is expected to be made sometime in May.
