Record number of passengers used Cork to Dublin rail line in 2017

A record-breaking 3.15 million passenger journeys were recorded on the Cork to Dublin rail line last year.

This represents a 6.5% increase on 2016. Strong growth was also recorded on the Cork to Cobh and Cork to Midleton routes. 

The Cork to Cobh passenger numbers were up 10% to 908,000 journeys and Cork to Midleton was up 9% to 413,000.

The Cork to Dublin service continues to be Iarnród Éireann’s flagship Intercity service, with 31 services a day operating. 

Nationally, passenger numbers grew to 45.5million passenger journeys, equalling 2007, which was the highest number of passenger journeys ever recorded.

During 2018 Iarnród Éireann said it will continue invest in improving the Dublin to Cork line to further reduce journey times.
