THREE cars were damaged yesterday after a fire broke out in the car park of a church in Togher.
Cork City Fire Service was alerted to a car fire at lunchtime yesterday in the Way of the Cross Church car park.
One unit was sent to the scene and the fire took around 35 minutes to bring under control.
It had initially been feared that the cars were set alight maliciously, but it is now thought that an electrical fault may have been responsible.
New Deputy Lord Mayor Thomas Moloney said the fire appeared to be just an unfortunate incident.
“There have been no reports of vandalism being the cause, which I was a bit concerned about when I first heard about the fire,” he said.
However, the exact cause of the fire, which left the three cars extensively damaged, is as yet unknown.
