The children started two by two as they began their first day of secondary school in Glanmire Community College today.

Among the 196 students starting First Year were a remarkable seven sets of twins. These siblings are travelling from Watergrasshill, Brooklodge and Glanmire town itself to attend this popular post-primary school.

Meet the twins….

Harry Chambers, who loves hurling, reading and swimming, is joined by his twin brother Luke Chambers, who has a keen interest in boxing and video games, from Brooklodge Primary School.

The Chambers brothers were not the only twins in their primary school with the Dyczewksi twins making the move to Glanmire Community College also. Adam Dyczewski is a lover of the arts; be it drawing or drama, while his brother Robert is a fan of the outdoors, biking in particular.

Another fan of the outdoors is Mark Evans from Watergrasshill Primary School who enjoys a round of golf, while his brother David Evans will be particularly interested in the Glanmire Community College hurling team.

There was something in the water in Watergrasshill as twin sisters Alanna and Megan O’Flynn, and Holly and Hannah O’Mahony were also starting in Glanmire today. These four ladies are all GAA mad.

Art and music lover Cephora Kumpaya Mumpuni left Lower Glanmire Primary School with her twin brother Nathan who is signing up for all the school’s technology subjects.

The last into the Glanmire Community College ark were international level figure skater Sarah Finn and her brother Scott, who’s passion is computers. The Finns are coming from Riverstown National School.

This isn’t the first time Glanmire Community College have welcomed twins through their doors. The most they have had starting together previously, however, was only three sets, so the staff still have a bit of work to do to adjust their double vision.

Today marked the first day of second level education for their incoming 86 girls and 110 boys. Students were introduced to their new classes and met their Year Head, their tutors and the 5th Year Meitheal Group students who will be their mentors for the year.
