Ambulance staff attacked in Blackrock overnight

AMBULANCE staff were attacked by a youth who was "off his tree" in Blackrock overnight.

An ambulance was called to Elm Close at 12.30am to tend to an unresponsive 16-year-old who suddenly attacked paramedics.

The youth jumped out of the ambulance and began running around threatening the staff.

Gardaí arrived and the teenager was arrested and taken to the Bridewell. He will now be referred to the Juvenile Liasion Office (JLO).

A garda source described the youth as "off his tree" during the incident.

A male member of the ambulance staff suffered chest injuries during the incident and received medical treatment.

Ambulance staff members said they were shocked by the incident which showed the risks they face on a daily basis.
