Teenager dies after Ballincollig road collision
The teenager passed away in the CUH last night.

The young teenager who lost her life in a road accident on New Year’s Eve had been looking forward to flying to Paris on a school trip.

The 16-year-old Transition Year student at Ballincollig Community School was to head off to France with her schoolmates in two months time to visit Disneyworld.

Roisin O’Donovan from Ivy Circle, Muskerry Estate lost her life tragically after she was hit by a car on Main Street, Ballincollig, not far from her home, on Monday evening.

Roisin was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) with serious injuries and on New Year’s Day, the young teenager passed away.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Derry Canty said the whole town is in shock.

“The whole town is in a daze. A young girl so full of energy and life, it is very very sad.”

Mr Canty also said that it was extremely tragic for it to happen on New Year’s Eve.

“It makes it worse that it was on New Year’s Eve. Everyone out enjoying themselves and celebrating the New Year, it is just awful.”
