DR John Sheehan is set to be the next Lord Mayor of Cork, with Fianna Fáil ready to nominate him for the role at the Cork City Council AGM on Friday.
Though a deal on the Lord Mayor's chain and the annual budgets has yet to be struck between parties, Fine Gael and the other groupings involved in negotiations have said that Fianna Fáil will have the first year in the Mayor's office as it is the largest party in the council.
Mr Sheehan is a Blackpool-based GP, and was first elected to the City Council in 2014.
He said that he is honoured to be selected by his party for the role and is looking forward to taking office, pending the confirmation at the AGM.
He will replace independent councillor Mick Finn in the role and will be the first Lord Mayor of the expanded City Council.
