Pictures from inside the Douglas multistorey show the devastation caused by yesterday's fire

THE MORNING AFTER:
Fire Service crews are still at the scene this morning in Douglas making up equipment and monitoring the building.

The fire was contained to one section of burned-out cars on one floor of the Multi-storey car park. The photos show the extent to the grim reality of the morning after.
The incident is still active. And the scene is closed off.
Cork City Fire Service assisted by units from Cork County Fire Service and Gardaí will remain at the scene overnight.
The road closures that are in place will remain in force overnight.

The situation will be assessed again in the morning.
Thankfully there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident.
The Shopping Centre will remain closed on Sunday.
Reports that up to 50 vehicles have been destroyed in the major blaze but no reported deaths or injuries.
- Firefighters from Anglesea Street, Ballyvolane and Ballincollig fire stations have been joined by Carrigaline and Crosshaven stations to tackle the blaze.
- Road closures remain in force on the Douglas Link road and Church road.

Traffic on the N40 Westbound is extremely congested now with long delays on approach from junction 9 Bloomfield and junction 10 Mahon.
Motorist intending to go to Douglas Village should consider alternative routes and expect delays to continue.

- Church St in Douglas, which connects Douglas Village East and West is also closed to traffic.
This is at the rear of the Douglas Village Shopping Centre.
Traffic congestion in the area continues to deteriorate.
Motorists using the N40 in particular are asked to not stop to view/photograph the incident, and to also exercise extreme caution in congested traffic.

Smoke from this incident may also affect visiblity on the N40 South Ring Road, both directions, which runs adjacent to the car park site.

Firefighters are tackling a major blaze in the multi-storey car park of a suburban shopping centre in Cork.
Roads are closed in the Douglas area as up to eight units of the Cork City Fire Brigade respond to the incident at the Tesco multi-storey car park.
The alarm was raised around 7pm when a car caught fire on the first floor of the car park.
It is understood that several other vehicles also caught fire.
Gardaí have closed the link road from Douglas East to Douglas West to all traffic.

They have warned that smoke from this incident may also affect visibility on the N40 South Ring Road, both directions, which runs adjacent to the car park site.
They have also warned of delays for all traffic approaching Douglas Village from the Douglas road, the South Douglas road, and Rochestown road directions.
