Frankie Devlin Search: Search continues for missing Cork woman as family believe she will not be found in the water

Searches are continuing this for a Cork woman who has been missing from the Garryvoe area since Saturday night.

Sixty-seven Frankie Devlin has been missing since Saturday night, when she was last seen outside Garryvoe Hotel at around 10.45pm.

The Coastguard and Gardaí, along with volunteers and the Cork City Missing Persons Search and Rescue, have been combing the area, including the Garryvoe Bay, over the past few days in a bid to locate her.

Speaking to The Echo today, Ms Devlin’s son Killian said he and his family do not believe she will be located in the water.

He said divers are now searching in nearby marshlands and that gardaí have taken experienced hikers to search surrounding areas on foot.

Killian, who lives in Dublin, had come down to Midleton to see his mother over the weekend and to get a few jobs done around the house, getting the place ready for winter.

The alarm was raised when Ms Devlin failed to return home in the hours after.

“Everyone has been fantastic, the volunteers and emergency services have been brilliant to us, and we’re hoping they continue to do as well as they are,” he added.

Killian said that the Coastguard, the Gardaí and the Cork City Missing Person Search and Rescue have been out looking for Frankie since it was realised that she was missing but nothing had yet been found.

Frankie was last seen outside the Garryvoe Hotel at around 10.45pm wearing a black dress and a red and black jacket.

She had been attending a school reunion and had gotten a lift to the party with a friend.

Killian explained that his mother was terrified of water and would not have gone near the sea.

He said that this type of incident had never happened before and that it would be very unusual for his mother to disappear or wander off without telling someone of her plans.

“You could set your week by her,” he explained.

“She had her routine set out every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

“On Sundays, she loved to go the car boot sales and bric-a-brac,” he added.

“Then, she loved heading to matches after that so this is very unusual.” “It’s just been an absolutely massive shock.” Killian appealed for anyone with information to contact the Gardai.

“She didn’t just vanish off the face of the earth,” he said.

“Something happened to her, she is somewhere, and somebody has to know something.” Killian paid special thanks to all those who have assisted in the search so far.

“We’re blessed with the emergency services, the coast guard and search parties - they’ve been magnificent.”
