AN Bord Pleanála has ruled that further consideration or an amendment is needed on the plans for a Strategic Housing Development in the city centre.

Bmor Developments Limited had submitted a SHD consultation application for the development on North Main Street, which could see 285 student bed spaces created.

The SHD process allows developers to bypass local authority planning for housing projects above 100 homes in order to fast-track delivery.

If An Bord Pleanala deems the project a SHD, the developers can then apply directly to them for planning permission, bypassing Cork City Council’s planning department.

If it gets the go-ahead from An Bord Pleanala to proceed, it could join a number of other student apartment developments ongoing or in the pipeline for Cork City.
