A FORMAL application has been made for another large-scale student accommodation project in Cork City, under An Bord Pleanála’s fast-track strategic housing development process.

Denis O’Brien Developments (Cork) Ltd is applying for five-year planning permission for a 216-bed development at San Paula, Orchard Road, Cork City.

The proposal is to demolish existing structures on site and construct a one- to five-storey development, including 30 student apartments in three blocks.

The building is lower in the highest part of the site, near residential properties.

It’s proposed there will be one four-bed apartment, 10 six- bed apartments, and 19 eight-bed apartments.

A cinema/meeting room is also proposed for the development, along with a lounge and study area.

Four car-parking and 120 bicycle-parking spaces are included also.

The developers, who bought the home and land in 2018, said that the proposed project will respond “to an identified need for additional student accommodation in this part of the city, as outlined in the National Student Accommodation Strategy”.

There is also a provision for the apartments to be let short-term outside the academic year.

ScholarLee, a Cork-based student-accommodation management company, are proposed as the management company for the accommodation, once completed.

They are already in charge of ScholarLee Bishop St, ScholarLee Magazine Road, and ScholarLee Washington St.
