The annual Spirit of Mother Jones Festival has been postponed until late November, but this August, fans can catch a series of talks and films about Mother Jones and the festival on Cork Community TV.

Spokesperson for the Cork Mother Jones Committee, James Nolan said he was aware there were a lot of people disappointed and saddened that the festival was not going ahead at its usual scheduling for the ninth year, however he said all is not lost.

“With the cooperation of Cork Community TV we have decided to show some of the highlights of the previous eight festivals during the month of August 2020.

These highlights will commence on Saturday August 1 with a series of films about Mother Jones including the Cork produced documentary “Mother Jones and Her Children.

Also included for the first time will be a series of the annual Mother Jones lectures featuring American academics and experts such as Professor Elliott Gorn (author of the biography of Mother Jones).

Professor and author Simon Cordery who spoke in 2013 will also feature. Among the other speakers will be former miner Marat Moore, renowned actress Kaiulani Lee and Chairperson of the US Mother Jones Heritage project, Professor Rosemary Feurer.

Mr Nolan also said Cork Community TV would also be showing some of the talks that featured at the Mother Jones Summer School since 2012.

Among the speakers will be Hillsborough campaigner Margaret Aspinall, West Cork woman Louise O’Keeffe, Fr Peter McVerry, author and former MP Chris Mullin, Cork historians Anne Twomey and Luke Dineen and many others.

“We feel this will bring the incredible presentations and lectures which are a feature of our summer school over the years to everyone. Our thanks go to the speakers themselves and the Frameworks Films who recorded all the festivals which constitute an amazing archive of material” One can view all proceedings on www.corkcommunitytv.ie or Virgin Media 803. Details of the schedules can be located on the station itself.
