North Main Street is to be closed to traffic this evening until tomorrow morning.

The temporary road closure will be in place from 6:30pm today, 7 August, until Saturday morning, 8 August, in order to make the No. 63 and No. 64 sites safe for works to continue.

In July, Cork City Council started works to internalise of the support structures that are in place on no. 63 North Main Street.

In a statement from the Council, a spokesperson said: “Having completed a site survey and some initial works, additional structural issues were identified. These works will require the installation of additional temporary external support structures on the footpath outside No. 64 in order to make the site safe work works to continue.”

In order to facilitate the installation of these additional external support structures and associate hoarding, the council has said it is necessary to put in place an overnight road closure of the road outside no 64, North Main Street.

This road closure will be removed on Saturday morning and the street will reopen fully to vehicular traffic.

Cork City Council Director of Operations, David Joyce said: “Cork City Council is fully committed to delivering the required works to stabilise these buildings using internal support structures as quickly as possible. Our immediate goal is to remove all external support structures and hoarding and reopen the footpath in the shortest time possible.”
