Fota resort cancels Christmas experience due to Covid-19

Fota Island Resort has announced that it will not host its popular Christmas experience this year.

The annual event usually attracts large crowds as people celebrate the festive season.

However, Fota management said it would not be appropriate to encourage such large gatherings in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

In a statement on social media, John O’Flynn, resort general manager, explained that Fota will endeavour to create a festive experience for guests this December in line with public health guidelines.

“Christmas is always such a wonderful time of the year for our valued team and guests, as the magic of Christmas falls upon Fota Island Resort, and we welcome families and friends to make unforgettable Christmas memories,” he said.

“This festive season will be a little different for all of us due to the current public health guidelines.

“We feel it would not be appropriate for us to encourage families and friends of all ages to gather together in such numbers at a time when it is so important to keep our loved ones safe,” he added.

“As a result, we have taken the decision not to host our Christmas experience this year.

“The magic and joy of Christmas will still be found at Fota Island Resort this December where we will endeavour, more than ever, to create the most memorable festive experience for our resort guests, while adhering to the latest public health guidelines.

“Twinkling lights, Christmas trees and beautiful decorations will adorn the hotel from the moment you arrive.

“Festive songs from our resident carol singers will fill the air, and as always, our culinary team will be serving a selection of fabulous festive menus for you to enjoy both day and night.

“Thank you for your support and understanding and we hope to welcome you and your loved ones to Fota Island Resort over the holiday season, where Christmas memories will still be made.”
