A special public meeting of Cork City Council’s Climate Action Committee will take place online tomorrow with a number of special guest speakers.

The meeting will provide an update on climate action progress and initiatives by Cork City Council in keeping with its obligations under national climate action policy.

The meeting will be held on Friday, 16 October at 4.00 p.m and will be streamed on Cork City Council's website www.corkcity.ie/tv, their Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action, Brian Leddin T.D., and Saoi O'Connor of Fridays for Future will both be speaking at the event.

In terms of Cork City Council’s climate adaptation achievements over the 12 months, the local authority was the first in Ireland to set up a dedicated Climate Action Committee and one of the first local authorities to declare climate and biodiversity emergency in June 2019;

Cork City Council also has the largest EV (electric vehicles) fleet in the local authority sector and has introduced large-scale pedestrianisation of city centre streets, in tandem with continuing improvements in cycling infrastructure in recent times.

The meeting can be joined by following these links: www.corkcity.ie/tv, their Facebook page: Cork City Council or their YouTube channel: Cork City Council.
