Plans lodged for industrial and warehouse units in Mallow

Plans have been lodged for seven industrial and warehouse units beside Mallow’s IDA Business and Technology Park as investment continues across the North Cork town.

Kilknockan Partnership has applied to Cork County Council for permission to develop the units at Quartertown Lower.

The proposed development would comprise seven light industrial and warehouse units spread across two blocks with a combined floor area of more than 2,000sq m.

The scheme also includes an ESB substation, electric vehicle charging spaces, accessible and visitor parking, bicycle shelters, landscaping, public lighting, and associated site works.

Access would be through the existing entrance serving the adjoining IDA Business and Technology Park. The application comes as Mallow continues to attract significant public and private investment. More than €5m has been earmarked in the HSE capital plan for projects at Mallow General Hospital, including a new inpatient ward fit-out, expanded outpatient facilities and a new ambulance base.

Funding has also been allocated to progress the long-awaited N72/N73 Mallow relief road, while Uisce Éireann is investing €2m in water infrastructure to facilitate the delivery of around 130 new homes in the town.

The units would provide additional business space at a time when serviced employment land in the town is in short supply. A parliamentary reply last year showed the IDA had just 0.68 hectares of land available for marketing in Mallow.

Members of the public have until August 5 to make submissions or observations, with Cork County Council due to make a decision by August 25.
