More admitted patients are waiting for beds at the emergency department at Cork University Hospital (CUH) this morning than at any other hospital in the country.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation’s (INMO) Trolley Watch, 31 admitted people are waiting for beds at the hospital’s ED.

Speaking to the Echo earlier this month, Dr Conor Deasy, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at CUH had said that the Covid-19 outbreak had impacted bed capacity at the hospital.

He highlighted how construction works are underway at some wards, which would usually be available to the ED, to create more isolation spaces at the hospital and said this was impacting figures.

The latest INMO figures show seven people are waiting for beds at the Mercy University Hospital’s ED.

Nationally, 109 admitted patients are waiting for beds this morning with 99 of these patients waiting in emergency departments, while 10 are in wards elsewhere in the hospitals.
