Covid-19 survivor thanks staff at Cork University Hospital for saving his life

Dave Crabb and his wife Netanya spent five days in New York on holiday early last month but having returned to Cork, David suddenly became unwell and was admitted to CUH.

Within 30 hours he was on a ventilator in the intensive care unit (ICU). 

Speaking to RTÉ, Dave said when doctors told him they would have to put him in an induced coma, he feared the worst.

"Straight away you think of your family, the kids, what happens if I don't wake up," he said.

"There were several nights when they (the medical team) rang me and they told me he was critical," Netanya recalled.

The couple, who live in Carrigtwohill with their children, praised the heroic efforts of the staff at CUH.

"They're putting their lives at risk every single time they come in, just to give me a bottle of water - let alone meds," Dave said.

"A massive thank you to them," he continued. "They were working around the clock to keep me going."
