The French Ambassador to Ireland will be in Cork this week to name Josselin Le Gall as new Honorary Consul of France in Cork.

Ambassador Stéphane Crouzat will attend a ceremony at the Custom House on Friday where he will also award former Honorary Consul of France in Cork Patricia Mallon with the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite.

The Ordre National du Mérite, created by General de Gaulle, is bestowed to reward distinguished merit. Ms Mallon, a lawyer specialising in collaborative law and one of the founders of the Association of Collaborative Practitioners in Ireland, has served as Honorary Consul of France in Cork for seven years.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Ambassador Stéphane Crouzat said: “I am delighted to present this important distinction awarded by the President of the French Republic to Patricia Mallon as testimony of the excellent work she has done over the years as Honorary Consul of France in Cork, helping the French community and contributing to the deepening of political, economic and cultural links between France and the countries of Cork, Kerry and Waterford.”

France has appointed Mr Josselin Le Gall as new Honorary Consul in Cork, with jurisdiction over counties of Cork, Kerry and Waterford. Mr Le Gall is an entrepreneur and a member of the Board of Directors of the French Alliance of Cork.

“I congratulate Josselin Le Gall on his appointment as new Honorary Consul in Cork. I look forward to presenting him the Exequatur which officially designates him as Honorary Consul after approval by the Irish authorities. I wish him all the best in his new role” said Ambassador Stéphane Crouzat.

The Honorary Consul gives administrative support and emergency consular protection to French nationals – residents or tourists - in his jurisdiction. He acts as a representative of the Embassy of France to local authorities and works with them to promote cultural and economic links between France and the counties of Cork, Kerry and Waterford.
