Cork's drive-in cinema will be 'strictly adhering to all Covid-19 guidelines'
A drive-in cinema is coming to Cork this week.

A drive-in cinema is coming to Cork this week offering a total of 14 different screenings with everything from romantic comedies to dramas and family-friendly films.

The drive-in cinema will be held at Curraheen Greyhound Stadium and will run from this Thursday June 18 to Sunday June 21.

The grounds can accommodate up to 200 cars and up to five people are permitted per car.

Organisers have said they will be “strictly adhering to all Covid-19 guidelines”.

The event will be contactless and attendees will have tickets scanned through their car window.

Toilets will be provided strictly for emergencies and organisers strongly encourage attendees to not leave their car for any purpose.

Head of digital marketing at Event Labs, the company bringing the drive-in cinema to Cork, Eoin Doherty, said that the events company was “greatly impacted” by Covid-19 and had to come up with ideas that would allow the business to still function, keep employees’ jobs safe and continue to entertain people throughout lockdown.

“We started out with online quizzes and online streams of our most popular event, Bingo Loco, which allowed us to raise €70,000 for Pieta House and The Mater Foundation,” he told The Echo.

“The idea of the drive-in cinema was something we were actually already working on pre-Covid so it just made perfect sense to bring that concept to life given the current measures that are in place and to allow people to get a little bit more of their regular life back,” he said.

He said that he is hopeful that the drive-in cinema will return to the grounds for more screenings “for those whom this weekend didn’t suit”.
