Carrigaline running track delayed

FITNESS enthusiasts in Carrigaline will have to wait a little longer for a running track to be laid in the community park.

The track was originally envisaged to be installed shortly after a €220,000 skate park was opened in September but Cork County Council resources have been diverted elsewhere.

Ballincollig-Carrigaline municipal district officer Kevin O'Regan said plans for the running track should be progressed at the beginning of next year with plans being drawn up.

“Due to the need to commit resources to the preparation of the Part 8 for the Midleton – Youghal Greenway it was not possible to allocate resources to this project," he said.

“The Part 8 report is currently being prepared and once completed we anticipate that a number of smaller projects, including the running track, will be progressed to completion in quarter one 2019,” he added.

On foot of a request from Councillor Seamus McGrath (FF) on improvements lighting and security at the playground and skatepark in the community park, Mr O'Regan said arrangements are being put in place to upgrade existing cameras and to include the skate park in an area covered by CCTV.

It is anticipated that this work will be undertaken by year end.
