The stunning Kimberley in Crosshaven, on sale for €975,000

Crosshaven, Currabinny, and Myrtleville... three great locations familiar to Corkonians for their picturesque, waterside beauty.

They are especially attractive when the longer and sunnier days arrive, and the weather is good.

I’ve picked a property currently on sale in each area to showcase for you, in case it might tempt you into the move you’ve been dreaming of. If not, you can just enjoy the view!

Crosshaven - Kimberley, Camden Road, €975,000

The much-loved fishing village that has grown over the years into a tourist mecca still maintains it village feel; the square with its delightful cafes and restaurants, the world-renowned yacht club, the mentions in James Joyce’s Ulysses, and the natural beauty of the enclave.

Locals pride themselves on keeping the town spotless, as is evident when I visit by the spotless streets and floral displays.

Homes have been built on the outskirts of the town but the charm of the village centre remains, and it is here that we find our first home.

Up the hill at the left of Cronin’s famous pub, you’ll find established homes with the most perfect undisturbed views out to sea.

The property we’re highlighting today, called Kimberley, was originally built in 1899 for the British army. It was renovated and extended over the years, but the commanding views that the elevated site offered back in 1899 remain.

It is a three-bedroom and two-bathroom detached home that offers a delightful open vista from the front of the property, but from the road side it offers complete privacy. I love that! You can shut out the outside world and venture into your tranquil piece of heaven undisturbed.

There is room for several cars so they are secure within the property bounds.

Set on 194 square metres, there is no shortage of space. The reception rooms and kitchen are huge and they grasp the sunshine from every angle.

Whether it’s the balcony or the vaulted ceiling in the sun-filled kitchen, the current owners have used every natural advantage to enhance their living experience.

The estate agent tells me there is active interest in this property and it is hardly surprising.

Homes with all of the advantages that ‘Kimberley’ offers are normally over the €1 million mark.

As an added bonus the number 220 stops feet from the home so you can get into the city without the worry of parking!

Myrtleville - Inisfree, Fennells Bay, €285,000

This property has a small footprint with a big heart, and could make a little piece of retirement heaven - or maybe a holiday cottage.

Although how you would leave here and go back to the hustle and bustle of the city, I just don’t know.

Pass the turn off for Myrtleville and take the next right down the country lane to Fennels Bay. Here on the right is the sweetest little cottage that transports you back in time.

You can hear the sea while you sit in your garden, or gaze into the open fire from your rocking chair as the waves crash on the rocks below.

The crowds may gather on the beach in the summertime, but you’ll have the luxury of tootling over at your leisure without dealing with the traffic jams. You can park your car on the property but you won’t get two into the space as it is a small plot.

It has two bedrooms and one bathroom and lies on 64 square metres.

The price reflects this, and will attract many to the rose bushes and half door that greet you.

Currabinny - 1 The Terrace, €825,000

Our third home is in the ancient townland of Currabinny.

I have to say I felt underdressed as I walked along the lane that offers access to these divine masterpieces. You are transported back to a time of opulence and gentry, while you are even mindful of the history of this area with its bronze age sites.

The gardens at the front of these three-storey beauties sweep down towards the river. The area of these homes is a cul de sac so privacy is assured.

The doors of the homes were all open when I visited, as residents tended to their gardens and happily passed the time of day with me.

At the end of the row is 1, The Terrace, a fabulous six-bedroom and three bathroom home that truly needs to be seen to be appreciated.

You have private access to Currabinny Woods, or perhaps a boat in the river is more to your liking for exercise!

The rooms are large, the ceilings are high as expected for these homes, the light penetrates all corners, and the location is stunning irrelevant of the weather or time of year.

The privacy this cul de sac offers will attract many to view and make an offer. Again, at under the €1 million mark this home is a rare chance to step into perfection.

Crosshaven is only minutes away, the good schools in the area have small numbers, and the city is within a 15-minute drive. This home, on 326 square metres, will be a precious sanctuary for the next lucky owner.
