My Weekend: 'I am very keen to explore Cork as much as possible’

Issy Khogali says she spends her Sunday nights prepping for the week ahead.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work:

I currently live and work as a performer in London and have just finished a run in Matilda The Musical on the West End.

I had never been to Cork before, so I am very excited to be spending Christmas here and am keen to explore as much as possible on our days off.

What is your ideal way to spend a Friday night?

Long shower and a relaxing evening on the sofa in front of the TV.

Lie ins or up with the lark.. which is it for you?

Up with the lark.

Does work creep into your weekend at all?

Work definitely creeps into my weekend as there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done.

If money was no object, where would you head to on a weekend city break? And who would you bring with you?

I would bring my sister to New York as I’ve never been before and she’s brilliant at planning adventures.

Closer to home, is there some place you like to head to recharge the batteries?

Anywhere the sun is shining!

Do you like to catch up with family/friends at the weekend?

Yes, I enjoy a coffee catch up with friends at the weekend.

Do you get to indulge any hobbies?
Even as a spectator?

I am a personal trainer and thoroughly enjoy training for myself in the gym and also running.

Entertain or be entertained? If it’s the latter do you have a signature dish?

Entertain – signature dish is roasted vegetable risotto.

We have so many places to eat out in Cork - where are your go to spots for coffee/ lunch/ special meal?

Five points for coffee and Son of a Bun for food.

Sunday night comes around too fast.. how do you normally spend it?

Setting everything up ready for the week ahead, laying out clothes and meal prepping etc. and getting an early night.

What time does your alarm clock go off on Monday morning?

It depends what the week ahead looks like.

No two weeks in this industry are ever the same.

Issy Khogali plays the part of Jasmine in Cork Opera House’s upcoming panto, Aladdin.

Issy has just come off a run of Matilda in the West End and is appearing on stage in Cork for the first time. Aladdin opens on Wednesday, November 26, and tickets are on sale now from the box office (021) 4270022 and www.corkoperahouse.ie
