My Weekend: 'I adore being at home with my cat and my fiancé'

Cork comedian, Kyla Cobbler, is performing at Cork Opera House on February 17 and 18.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work?

My name is Kyla Cobbler. I am a stand-up comedian. I’m from Ballincollig but I’m currently based in Barcelona. Being a pro comic is a dream come true and here in Barcelona I can get on stage every night and perform to audiences from all over the world. It is great practice. The sunshine doesn’t hurt either.

What is your ideal way to spend a Friday night?
I’m usually on stage on a Friday night, so the rare occasion I’m off I adore being at home with my cat and my fiancé just watching a TV series and ordering take away. The dream!

Lie ins or up with the lark. Which is it for you?
Up with the lark every time.

Does work creep into your weekend at all?

Weekends as a stand-up comedian are where the work is so I will always welcome the creeping work weekend.

If money was no object where would you head to on a weekend city break? And who would you bring with you?

I would take himself to Paris and be fancy and cultured.

Closer to home, is there some place you like to head to recharge the batteries?

My sister lives in Ballycotton and I love it down there. She had a baby in February though, so he has really ruined the peace. Just kidding, I love him.

Do you like to catch up with family/friends at the weekend?

Yes, I hang out with my friends every weekend.

Do you get to indulge any hobbies? Even as a spectator?

I love yoga, swimming, and running. I’m lucky with my job so I have most mornings free. I get to practice yoga and run most days before I start working.

Entertain or be entertained? If it’s the latter do you have a signature dish?

Prefer to be entertained. I bring nothing to the table culinary wise.

We have so many places to eat out in Cork — where are your go to spots for coffee/lunch/special meal?
I love The Church in Skibb.

Sunday night comes around too fast. How do you normally spend it?
Chilling at home. I usually do my washing and change the sheets etc so Monday is fresh.

What time does your alarm clock go off on Monday morning?

Usually 7am.

Anything else you are up to right now…
I’m touring and writing my new show so trying to be disciplined with my physical activity so my creativity flows.
