Festive Afternoon Tea at the Metropole Hotel

The Christmas-themed afternoon tea which has been launched at the Metropole Hotel.

The Metropole Hotel has launched a Christmas-themed afternoon tea which is inspired by the traditional afternoon teas enjoyed in the historic hotel more than 100 years ago.

Guests can enjoy seasonal flavours with delicate pastries, warm scones and savoury creations crafted by the hotel’s team of chefs.

The Metropole Hotel underwent a major refurbishment of its ground floor earlier this year, and the festive afternoon tea will be served in the newly renovated lobby. The hotel’s refurbishment was recently commended by the Cork Business Association when it was awarded the Judges Choice at the annual Better Building Awards. The afternoon tea will be served daily from 1pm to 4pm and costs €40 per person.

Louise McNamara, general manager of the Metropole Hotel said: “The build up to Christmas is well and truly underway in Cork city and people are coming in to the city centre to enjoy a day of Christmas shopping or to go to one of the many exciting Christmas performances taking place over the coming weeks, including the pantos at The Everyman and Cork Opera House.

“The Metropole Hotel is now the perfect place where shoppers and theatre goers can stop for a festive treat in the elegant surroundings of our lobby.”

The menu includes: The Met “Swiss Roll” with mulled berries; hot whiskey paté de fruits; Bramley apple and olive oil sponge; baked buttermilk scones; Follain strawberry preserve; Irish salted butter and fresh cream passion fruit; Bergamot and Italian meringue tartlet; hazelnut praline choux bun; St Tola goat’s curd; pickled beetroot and orange tart festive turkey and cranberry with herb mayonnaise on white pan, and spiced beef.

Pre-booking is essential, and reservations can be made online at www.metropolehotel.ie
