Two men who died in tragic circumstances on the same day in different areas of Cork city have been named locally as Shane Grimes and Shane O’Sullivan.

A 31 year old man who was found dead in Kyrl’s Quay in Cork city on Friday afternoon has been named as father of three Shane O’Sullivan. 

Mr O'Sullivan was from Togher Road and late of Gurranabraher in the city.

His funeral arrangements will be announced on Monday. Mr O'Sullivan is also survived by his parents and a sister who have asked that donations be made to the Simon Community or Street Angels in lieu of flowers. Friends said that Mr O'Sullivan was a “gentle soul” who “didn’t have a bad bone in his body.”

Meanwhile, separately a 28 year old man was found dead at Fitzgerald's Park in Cork on Friday morning has been named as Shane Grimes. Emergency services attended at the park at about 10am. 

Mr Grimes was formally pronounced dead at the scene.

Funeral arrangements for Mr Grimes will be announced in the coming days. 

It is understood that he was living in the northside of Cork city at the time of his death.

The bodies of both men were taken to the morgue at Cork University Hospital on Friday.

Post-mortem examinations and toxicology results will determine the cause of death of both men. The deaths are not being treated as suspicious.
