A truck fire on the N25 has caused major traffic delays in Cork today.

AA Roadwatch said: "The N25 has reopened westbound at J3 Cobh Cross following an earlier truck fire, but traffic remains congested in the area. It's still busy on the N25 itself from J4 Carrigtohill, and then there are long delays on the Cobh Rd (R624) through Fota. Traffic on the former diversion route through Glounthaune Village is also very slow. Bus Éireann have delays as a result.

"Not far away, there's a queue on the Cobh Rd (R624) for the Passage West Ferry coming from Cobh itself.

"Gardaí are advising motorists to divert via Midleton (R626), through Lisgoold and Leamlara and into the city via Watergrasshill (R639)."

Towards the city, there's a long inbound queue on Pouladuff Rd approaching the Tramore Rd jct.

A Garda statement issued earlier this morning said: "Gardaí received reports of a lorry on fire on the N25 at Little Island. This occurred at approximately 5:30am this morning... The N25 westbound was closed while fire services attended. The blaze has now been brought under control and the road has re-opened."
