The Republic of Ireland ended 2025 with a 3-2 victory over Hungary in a behind-closed-doors international in Marbella.

Crystal Palace forward Abbie Larkin built on her stoppage-time strike against Belgium that clinched Nations League promotion in October with a goal and assist for Carla Ward’s side.

The 20-year-old struck after just eight minutes when she pounced on a defensive error to run clear and score the opener.

And she turned provided 11 minutes later by running at the Hungary defence before slipping the ball to Kyra Carusa, who kept her composure to slot home.

Hungary responded in the 27th minute when Borbala Vincze scored on the rebound following a good save from debutant goalkeeper Sophie Whitehouse.

Ireland restored the two-goal lead eight minutes after half-time when Denise O’Sullivan turned in Hayley Nolan’s knockdown, before Zsanett Kajan netted a late consolation for the Hungarians.
