Latest: Irish rugby team arrive in Dublin for Grand Slam celebration

Update 7pm: The Irish rugby squad have arrived at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin.

The team sealed an historic Grand Slam with a 24-15 win against England in the final round of the Six Nations yesterday at Twickenham.

Replacement out-half Joey Carbery says it was a special moment in the dressing room after the game.

"it's incredibly special," he said. "I think everyone was just trying to take it all in and make sure we remember all these moments because it's a pretty special thing today."

The team were greeted with a special guard of honour after they touched down at Dublin Airport this afternoon.

A fleet of airport emergency vehicles escorted the flight after it touched down to its stand after the flight from Heathrow.

A planned homecoming event scheduled for the Aviva Stadium had to be cancelled due to the bad weather.

It follows their historic win in London yesterday, which saw Ireland complete a clean sweep of victories in this year's tournament and secure just the third Grand Slam win ever.

President Higgins lead the tributes to the team yesterday thanking them for providing a wonderful memory on a St Patrick's Day never to be forgotten.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar congratulated the team while the Sports Minister Shane Ross described it as "the sweetest of victories to the greatest of teams".

A special ticketed homecoming event has been organised for the Aviva Stadium in Dublin at 4.30 this afternoon, where the Irish rugby heroes will parade their triple crown and Six Nations trophies.
