Latest: ODCE hopes report into failures in Sean Fitzpatrick investigation can be published soon

Update 5.30pm: The Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement says it hopes its report into the failures in the Sean Fitzpatrick investigation can be published soon.

The ODCE has welcomed changes announced by the Government earlier, that will make the office more independent.

It was part of a range of measures to tackle white collar crime.

New offences on bribery, a garda-led task force to tackle payment and credit card fraud and a bill to speed up complicated financial trials are among the measures

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe says provision is also being made to chase offshore assets.

He said: "If a company or individual is seeking to hide a particular asset in another jurisdiction, the revenue commissioner will have the power to share information with their peer tax authority in other countries that sign into this treaty."

Earlier: New law to be introduced tackling white-collar crime

The Government is set to announce a range of measures aimed at tackling white-collar crime.

It will include stricter monitoring of banks and financial institutions and new laws on bribery and planning corruption.
