The jury unanimously rejected the prosecution case that Michael Scott deliberately murdered his aunt out of 'a sense of entitlement and for revenge'

Scott had pleaded not guilty to the murder of his aunt Chrissie Treacy outside her home in Co Galway in April 2018

The jury will return to the Central Criminal Court on Thursday for their fifth day of deliberations.

The jury has spent four hours and 17 minutes deliberating and will return to the Central Criminal Court on Tuesday

Ms Justice Caroline Biggs thanked the three jurors who had been discharged and exempted them from further jury service for life.

The trial is due to hear closing speeches on Tuesday before the judge begins her charge to the jury

Dr Mark Jordan also disagreed with a garda report suggesting that the 76-year-old Ms Treacy should have been visible as Mr Scott reversed across his yard.

John Hayes also told the trial that a pedestrian would have been "clearly visible" through the back window of the teleporter and that "flailing" injuries to Ms Treacy's left arm were consistent with a "very quick" or "aggressive" change in direction from reverse to forward and could be consistent with the rotation of the wheel on her arm.

In garda interviews following his arrest on suspicion of murder, Mr Scott said he didn't know he could call 999 for an ambulance and he didn't think his aunt would die.

Detective Garda Eoin O'Connor told the Central Criminal Court trial that due to Ms Treacy's age and mobility issues it is "unlikely she could have just appeared at the point where her body was found" and that she "would have been observable moving across the yard".

Gda Eoin O'Connor told prosecution counsel Dean Kelly SC that on June 26th, 2018 he carried out an analysis of the sight lines for a person of Mr Scott's height sitting in the cabin in a normal driving position.

Agricultural consultant and auctioneer Declan McHugh told the trial that Ms Treacy hired him in early 2017 to lease 40 acres she owned at Kiltormer that had previously been farmed by Mr Scott and his brother Thomas.

Under re-examination, the witness told Mr Kelly that Mr Scott knew that his right eye was weak and that if Mr Scott turned around while reversing he would be able to see using his left eye.

Sgt Gerard Cleary told the trial that about six weeks before Ms Treacy died, the accused came to Portumna Garda Station and became upset while telling him that he would have to "give up the cows" because Ms Treacy was being unreasonable.

Francis Hardiman today told Dean Kelly SC, for the prosecution, that the accused said this in front of him some years before Ms Treacy's death. He believed that Mr Scott was referring to the family of Regina Donohue, a close friend of Ms Treacy's. Mr Scott's relationship with Ms Donohue had been good at one time but deteriorated, the witness said. When asked why the relationship deteriorated, Mr Hardiman said: "It was possibly all over land and leases."
