A jury of seven men and five women was sworn in at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork to hear the trial of a woman accused of murdering her 52-year-old brother at his home in Cork city over two years ago.

The accused had 140 previous convictions, including two for robbery, one for burglary and others for thefts and drug possession.

A 27-year-old man with a Frankfield address has confessed to carrying out two robberies while carrying an imitation firearm. Liam Croke of Dunvale Grove, Frankfield, Cork, appeared at Cork District Court where he confessed to the crimes.

The crowbar was later recovered by the garda armed support unit but the machete was never found.

“He tried to strangle her with her own black T-shirt. He punched her repeatedly in to the face, causing her nose to bleed. She was covered in blood."

He is accused of 21 counts of dangerous driving and one count of endangerment.

The most serious count to which pleaded guilty was that he had just over 400g of cannabis for sale or supply at his home on December 16, 2019.
