Summer Soap (Episode 12) Seán’s gone and it wasn’t your fault, don’t be guilty

Friday 29th June 2018, 10:15

Kelly,

So, I know no more Seán means no more ban on mobiles during work, but I wanted to send you one last email for old time’s sakes.

From what I’ve gathered, Seán was fired the same day I filed my sexual harassment report. That explains why we haven’t seen him at all the last two days. Apparently mine wasn’t the first, or even the second claim against him, and I tipped the scales against him so it wasn’t really in question any more that he was making a habit of taking advantage of the women in the office.

Despite that, I think they’ll still be doing some kind of investigation, but I’m not worried about that.

I’ll tell the truth and they can choose to do with it what they want. I don’t care once Seán is gone. I feel pretty good about that.

I get the impression Naomi’s heard about it because she gave me a high five this morning at reception and handed me an extra cookie, which was nice.

I’m not over this and I don’t think I will be for a while, but I want you to know that if you hadn’t talked me into reporting him, I don’t think I ever would have. So thank you.

On this day in 2018, you are seeing the result of something small having an effect.

I’ve decided I’m not going to keep looking for another job just yet. They’re reopening the applications for the upstairs job because obviously it was not done right under Seán, and they’re bringing in some upper management interviewers from the sister company in Little Island.

I’m going to send my application again and I’m going to go through with the interview. After that, it’s out of my hands and I’ll reassess depending on how that goes.

In an ideal world, I’ll move upstairs and rejig things from there and you and I can continue to be office wives and have regular lunch dates.

Thanks for minding Jamie tonight. It’s been a tough week on me but also on Dave so it’ll be good to take him to Son of a Bun, finally. I don’t know what I’d do without you.

All my love, Sandra xx

Sand,

I know this isn’t a clear-cut happy ending but I’m glad Seán is gone and you get a bit of a clean slate here.

I know Jerry would be devastated if you left anyway. I’m not supposed to tell you but Dave texted me and asked me to look after you at work. You told me you felt guilty in some way about what happened but I think he really understands that what happened wasn’t you fault at all. If anything I think he’s proud of you for getting Seán kicked out before he had to kick his ass himself.

I keep looking down at the poor Leaving Cert kids below. They have no idea what’s ahead of them, the poor pets. I want to go down and give them all a hug.

It isn’t all bad though, they might end up in a job where they meet their best friend in the next few years like we did.

It’s such a beautiful day! Did you see the swans go by down the Lee? Dave would be terrified.

Naomi and Jerry want to come for lunch with us if you don’t mind? We were thinking about getting gelato afterwards and sitting by the water. Maybe come back to the office a little late and enjoy the sun while we have it. Please say yes.

You wifey and partner in crime, Kelly
