The Gables has had a rich history of traditional Irish music sessions in the city of Cork for almost four decades.The Gables has been the recipient of many awards including Oireachtas na Gaelige music award for pub session.
A lively fun Sunday jazz session, joined by some of Cork's best swing dancers, this weekly event offers a relaxed end-of-weekend, with the space to bop along too! With influences including Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli, Oscar Peterson and a plethora of many other jazz giants, Pinky Trolley bring a classic approach to equally classic music.
Born in the Folk House and a neighbouring apartment in Kinsale in the hot summer of 2013, the Big Swingin' Mikeys are a band that was set up as a "non-Saturday night" band.
What's that sound are a four piece Funk and Blues acoustic outfit consisting of four well established singer-songwriters (Joey Ryan, Pierre Morrisey, Evan Prendergast & Clare Sands) What's that sound? carry themselves with a tight yet relaxed atmosphere.
Upstairs at the Oliver Plunkets 'Frisky Whiskey' bar 'Ceol Coolroe' will be playing. The Traditional Irish Music Session is sure to be full of "ceol agus craic"!
Formed as a backup band in case one of Inner City Blues were working on other projects. It features up and coming superstar guitarist Pierre Morrissey.
Morrissey hails from the great musical town of Killkenny. The new outfit also features drummer Julian Costante from Rome, Italy. Bluesman Andrea Bonnino, a founder member of Inner City Blues Band Plays Harmonica, Guitar and does the occasional vocal with Bad Boy Blues The senior Italian hails from Piza in the Tuscon Hills of Italy. The finale piece of the puzzle is Bassist Jerome Rimson Well known for his work with the likes of Phil Lynott and Van Morrison. As co-founder of Inner City Blues the Detroit Hit Man has lived in Ireland for over 33 years and brings the streets of Detroit into the music! The Bad Boy Blues Band plays a cross-section of original blues, Muddy Waters Little Walter etc. along with song by Rory Gallagher. Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley.
Kesh are a four piece contemporary Irish band hailing from Co. Cork. Comprising of members Jason (Vocals, Guitar), Aaron (Uilleann Pipes, Tin Whistle, Low Whistle & Vocals), James (Bass, Vocals) & Chris (Drums, Vocals). Kesh play up-tempo traditional Irish music along with classic folk ballads & contemporary songs.
Jack is an incredible solo act and his repertoire is absolutely incredible. It even includes a solo version of Bohemian Rhapsody! A fantastic guitar player with a voice to match.
The Lee Sessions is the umbrella term for all authentic, traditional Irish music sessions in Cork city.
Supported by Cork City Council, this trad session series runs all year round, and features world-class musicians and singers, in Cork's most iconic bars.
These renowned sessions, which enhance Cork's reputation as THE traditional music capital, are an absolute must-see, for locals and visitors alike!
This weekly session takes place in one of Cork's most famous bars, An Spailpín Fánach, and features some wonderful musicians and singers. A fantastic night is guaranteed.
Triskel Gallery Space Aesthetic Distance is a photographic exploration of desire and the sense of self within the concept of social and cultural belonging, and it features a series of staged self-portraits by artist Vera Ryklova. Although the theme is associated with the artist’s intimate life its depiction possesses elements that allow for different layers of interpretation. The role-playing attitude the work carries certainly provokes but does not denounce.
This exhibition will contain two bodies of work by Cork based artist Sandra Hickey. The first style of work is inspired by her time working on Oscar nominated Loving Vincent, where she and 124 artists hand painted over 65,000 frames in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. The second body of work is a style Hickey has been developing for years and was making in the lead up to Loving Vincent.
Exhibition continues by Alys Tomlinson, an award-winning editorial and fine art photographer based in London.
