White Lies, Harry McVeigh, Charles Cave and Jack Lawrence-Brown are at Cyprus Avenue


Cyprus Avenue, Caroline St. White Lies 7.30pm, adm €25

White Lies are: Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar), Charles Cave (bass, b/vocals) and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). Their album Five was released in February. Speaking about their current tour, the band said: "We are delighted to announce these shows despite not playing in Ireland for some years our Irish fans support has never faltered, and we look forward to some great shows and traditional Irish hospitality.” 

The Gables, Douglas St. Traditional Irish Music Session 9.30pm, adm free

The Gables is home to the “Trad Session” for more than 30 years. The session has been visited by travelling musicians from far and wide with many diverse cultures. They have been tutored in all forms of music, classical, jazz, folk and blues but in some way all are drawn to the allure of traditional Irish music. They are drawn to the allure of the session. The way in which a group of musicians can gather, some having met only for the first time, pick a set of random tunes and yet all know exactly when to start, change and stop, all in perfect unison. Yes the phenomena of the musical gathering that it ‘the session’.

Brú Bar & Hostel, 57 MacCurtain St, Something Different with Ruairi De Leaster & Guests 9pm, adm free

Ruairí de Leastar has performed countless gigs in various forms of bands, duos or solo acts over the last 15 years. Having shared the stage with acts such as Foy Vance, Duke special, Lisa Hannigan and Jerry Fish, he has been learning from the best and honing his own style. Ruairí has a vocal range that can swell over an audience and fill a room full of emotion and swoop with elasticity from the depths up to soaring heights.

The Oliver Plunkett, Oliver Plunkett St. The Song Collector Sessions 8pm, adm €20

The Song Collector Sessions return to Cork City for one night only with An Evening of Legendary Irish Songs - an intimate concert performance by some true greats of Irish music at Cork City's premier folk and traditional Irish music venue, The Oliver Plunkett. Roy Buckley Music in association with the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) brings this renowned production back to the city where it all began for an epic music session on Leeside! PJ Coogan (IMRO Speech Broadcaster of The Year), hosts this Irish music extravaganza. The line up includes Liam Reilly (Bagatelle), John Spillane, Mike Hanrahan (Stockton's Wing), Sean McGuinness (Dublin City Ramblers) and Roy Buckley. Since June 2012, there have now been over 40 sold out "Song Collector Sessions" from Cork to Las Vegas, with Roy Buckley Music Productions bringing together line-ups that ensure a full house every time.

Reardens, Washington St. Traffic 10.30pm, adm free

Traffic is a cover band based out of Limerick, Ireland. They play an energetic mix of music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's & today The Welcome Inn, Parnell Place Welcome Inn Sessions 9.30pm, adm free Cork's finest Trad & Folk session in one of the city's few remaining traditional Irish pubs.

Crane Lane Theatre, Phoenix St. Gerry Quigley & The Shinkickers 11.50pm, adm free

If you could combine the sound of Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Eric Bell and Paul Kossoff with the madness of Jimi Hendrix, you would have blues/rock guitar virtuoso Gerry Quigley and his band! Original progressive Celtic rock, rock and blues, with some of your favourite 70’s rock classics!
