On Saturday he came to Cork to mark the 20th anniversary of 'Mojo' a rock’n’roll drama depicting the rivalry between musicians, a nightclub owner and some local gangsters.

Speaking on the stage with the Triskel's Head of Cinema Chris O'Neill, Gillen spoke of how he had previously appeared in the stage version of Mojo before being asked by writer and director Jez Butterworth to appear int he film version.

“We’ve had Aidan host several screenings at Triskel in the past but he has always requested films that he likes and have inspired him, rather than films he has appeared in. Therefore, when Aidan asked if we could screen Mojo, I knew it was a film that was special to him," Mr O'Neill said.

During the Q&A, Gillen spoke about working with rising acting talents including Andy Serkis (Lord of the Rings), Ewan Bremner (Trainspotting) and Ian Hart (Michael Collins). He said that after appearing in Mojo he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life acting.

The Q&A was followed by a screening of the film. Mr O'Neill said Mojo was never released on video or DVD and was only shown a few times on television meaning it was a privilege for the Triskel to be able to screen it.

The money raised from the anniversary screening will be donated to charity.
