FAI CUP holders, Cork City will have to wait until Tuesday night week to know who they will play in the final on Sunday, November 5 after Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers played out a 1-1 draw in the second semi-final at Oriel Park yesterday.
Rovers boss Stephen Bradley, the youngest manager in the league, will be the happier after his team came from a goal down to get back in the tie when Brandon Miele equalised on 76 minutes to cancel out Robbie Benson’s ninth minute opener.
Rovers had midfielder David McAllister sent off 10 minutes from the end for a second yellow card and a dangerous over-the-ball tackle on Chris Shields and he will miss the replay at Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday, October 10 (7.45pm).
Dundalk unbeaten in 13 games are chasing a cup double having beaten Rovers 3-0 in the EA Sports Cup final at Tallaght two weeks ago while Rovers are seeking to win the Blue Riband trophy for a record 25th time.
Mid-way through the second half Dundalk’s Stephen O’Donnell took a Ronan Finn effort off the line.
John Caulfield’s Cork City reached the final of the Irish Daily Mail sponsored event for the third year in-a-row thanks to a 1-0 win over Limerick at Turner’s Cross last Friday night when Garry Buckley netted the winner.
