ERIN’S OWN have advanced to the Cork County JAFC semi-final, following a gritty 0-9 to 0-8 victory over Kilmurry in the quarter-final at Páirc Uí Rinn on Wednesday night.
Many people might feel this is a shock result, but the Glounthaune based side were full value for their victory, despite a slow start. The winning point was a James Taylor free after former Irish rugby star Tomás O’Leary was hauled down on his introduction in the 58th.
Ex-Munster scrumhalf O’Leary, a star hurler in his youth and Cork minor captain back in 2001, was introduced late on and made the desired impact. The veteran won a great ball and was brought down for a free on the 20-metre line. Taylor, who also has a rugby background as he's the UCC outhalf, tapped over a point, with the final-whistle sounding soon after.
